When I was driving home from California, we chose to follow I-70 back across Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Every person we talked to who had taken this route before warned us that ‘Kansas is going to be so boring!’
As you can see, this was not really the case. Having left Goodland a bit later than planned due to some time zone issues in the western strip of the state, we reached the eastern quarter of Kansas just before dinnertime. After a quick stop in Manhattan KS, we came back onto the freeway in the middle of a seasonal surprise – the controlled burn of miles and miles of prairie / farmlands. Some back-roads driving brought us deep into the middle of the fires for some great photography.
